GANG OF 7: EMILY VOGEL (UNITED STATES)

 A SMALL REPORT  
 Jesus was crucified yesterday afternoon,  

 or Jesus was crucified

 two thousand years ago. The days pass

in the usual sense of days passing:

we eat pork roast and potatoes,

watch clever commercials on the television.

The nature of time is terrifically troubling.

A six-foot Santa rises among some evergreen trees,

among the muck of a dimly lit back road,

among the cold and forthcoming season.

You fall asleep on the floor beneath my feet.

Somewhere is the sound of water.

My womb swells with the bulk of a life.

Stories unfold in a series of images,

people pass in and out as personalities

bereft of names.

At the falling of dusk, Emmanuel comes,

and the traffic on the highway proceeds

in a wild confusion of light. 

SCURTĂ MĂRTURIE

Iisus a fost răstignit ieri după-amiază,
sau Iisus a fost răstignit
acum două mii de ani. Zilele trec

așa cum trec ele:

mâncăm friptură de porc și cartofi,
ne uităm la reclame istețe la televizor.

Cursul timpului e greu de digerat.

Un Moș Crăciun de doi metri se ridică printre brazi,
trece printre gunoaiele unei străzi dosnice slab luminate,
prin anotimpul rece care se apropie.

Ai adormit pe podea, la picioarele mele.
De undeva se aude sunetul apei
În pântec îmi crește o formă de viață.
Întâmplări se înșiră înaintea mea, cadru cu cadru,
oameni apar și dispar ca niște ființe
care n-au nume

Când se înserează, Emanuel vine,
iar traficul de pe autostradă înaintează

în lumina care se dezlănțuie ca turbată

CULTURAL PROFILE

     Emily Vogel’s poetry has been published in numerous journals, most recently in Lyrelyre, Maggy, Lips, The San Pedro River Review, The Paterson Literary Review, The Comstock Review, [Spaces}, and The Journal of New Jersey Poets. She has published five chapbooks: most recently Digressions on God (Main Street Rag, author’s choice series, 2012). The Philosopher’s Wife, a full-length collection, was published in 2011 (Chester River Press). She has work forthcoming in New York Quarterly, Tiferet, Omniverse, and 2 Bridges Review. Recently, she collaborated with her husband, Joe Weil on a book of poetry, West of Home, which has been published by Blast Press. She is the poetry editor of the online journal Ragazine.CC, and teaches writing at SUNY Oneonta and Hartwick College. You may contact her at evogel1@binghamton.edu

     Poeziile lui Emily Vogel au fost publicate în numeroase reviste, dintre care cele mai recente sunt: Lyrelyre, Maggy, Lips, The San Pedro River Review, The Paterson Literary Review, The Comstock Review, [Spaces} și The Journal of New Jersey Poets. A publicat cinci plachete de versuri, cea mai recentă intitulându-se Digressions on God (Main Street Rag, în selecția autoarei, 2012). Colecția integrală The Philosopher’s Wife a fost publicată în 2011 (Editura Chester River). Urmează să publice și în New York Quarterly, Tiferet, Omniverse și în 2 Bridges Review. Recent, semnează, împreună cu soțul ei, Joe Weil, volumul de poezie West of Home, apărut la Editura Blast.
