On bottom of time, diggers found
a woman, not guarded by dates
or coloured by wars.

Beheaded, her body smeared, deformed,
denied, cancelled out of books,
she became what she was: a woman,
repeated beginning,

bottom stone which always comes above.

o femeie, nestrăjuită de curmali
sau colorată în războaie.

Decapitată, trupul ei pătat, deformat,
negat, scos din cărţi,
a devenit ceea ce era: o femeie,
un început cu repetiţie,

piatra din adâncuri, ieșind mereu la suprafaţă.

Cultural Profile: Catharina Boer was born in De Bilt, near the city of Utrecht, and has been living for quite some time in Nuenen, the village where Vincent van Gogh was active. She wrote seven books of poetry and published in The Netherlands and Belgium. Some titles are: Verlaten tafels, Zwijgwater and Heuvels en rivieren. So far, her poems were translated in English, German and Norwegian. She also wrote short prose and plays for children and a historical drama called Who is Jacoba?
