ODE TO A SECOND, DEAD OWL
Once more feathers fluttering
in the bend, near the lake
where three men drowned
flat on the road lies a dead owl.
At the water’s edge the peak keeps silent
along with the fisher in the boat.
Only the owl beckons.
Spreading a wing
At each car that passes.

ODĂ CELEI DE-A DOUA BUFNIŢE MOARTE
Încă o dată penele fluturând
în curbă, lângă lacul
unde s-au înecat trei oameni,
strivită pe şosea zace o bufniţă moartă.
La marginea apei piscul rămâne tăcut
la fel ca pescarul din barcă.
Doar bufniţa semnalizează.
Arătând cu aripa
Spre fiecare maşină care trece.

CULTURAL PROFILE

   Writer, editor and poet Ezra de Haan is the author of two books of poems: Ik belde mijn muze (2003) and Scheren zonder Spiegel (2011). He wrote two novels: Vonk (1996) and Kermis in the hel (1999) and a book on writing: Wereldschrijvers – Best Authors of the World (2009). His poems have been translated into English, German, Czech, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia and Afrikaans. He teaches creative writing in The Netherlands and Surinam, was the founding editor of Vrijstaat Austerlitz and a contributing editor of prose and poetry in Nynade. In 2014, de Haan will publish his roadnovel Zoeken naar Slory.

   Scriitorul, editorul şi poetul Ezra de Haan este autorul a două volume de poezie: Ik belde mijn muze (2003) şi Scheren zonder Spiegel (2011). A scris două romane: Vonk (1996) şi Kermis in the hel (1999) şi o carte despre scris: Wereldschrijvers - Cei mai buni autori ai lumii (2009). Poeziile lui au fost traduse în engleză, germană, cehă, japoneză, indoneziană şi în afrikaans. Predă scriere creativă în Olanda şi Surinam, a fost editor fondator al revistei Vrijstaat Austerlitz şi editor contributor de proză şi poezie al revistei Nynade. În 2014, de Haan îşi va publica romanul Zoeken naar Slory.
