CONTEMPORARY ARTS: VIRGINIA CLAUDIA PATRONE ( SPAIN)

 
UNA MAESTRA DE LOS ARTES VISUALES
     Virginia Patrone (Montevideo, 1950) es una artista uruguaya de origen italiano, radicada en España.
     Estudió arquitectura en la Facultad de Arquitectura de Montevideo, pintura en el taller de Pepe Montes – de formación torresgarciana‐ y grabado con David Finkbeiner –del Pratt Institute de Nueva York.
     En 1988 obtiene una beca Fulbright y se instala tres meses en Nueva York. Desde 1983 participa en unas sesenta muestras colectivas y más de veinte muestras individuales en galerías de arte y museos en Uruguay, Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Ecuador, Perú, Estados Unidos de América, Japón, Alemania, Austria, Francia, España e Inglaterra. En 1990 es invitada a exponer una muestra individual en el Museo Metropolitano de Tokyo. Ha cosechado varios premios de pintura y dibujo en el Uruguay y también en el exterior.
     Representó a Uruguay en las siguientes biena les: Latin Art Gallery, Nagoya, Japón, 1991; Bienal de Pintura de Cuenca, Ecuador, 1991 y 1994; XI Bienal de Valparaíso, Chile, 1994; Viento Sur, Brasil, 1996.
     Se instala en Barcelona de 2003 a 2005 y durante cuatro meses realiza junto a Álvaro Pemper un taller abierto al público. A partir de 2005 vive entre Madrid y Barcelona. Actualmente tiene su estudio en Barcelona y expone su obra en el Espacio Infame en Barcelona.
 
A MASTER OF VISUAL ARTS
     Virginia Patrone (born Montevideo, 1950) is based in Barcelona since 2003.
     She entered the Universidad Mayor de la República (National University of Uruguay), Faculty of Architecture, in 1971. From 1978 to 1981, she studied painting at Pepe Montes’ Studio (Montes is an artist and teacher from Torres Garcia’s Studio). In 1986 and 1989 she studied etching with David Finkbeiner from the Pratt Institute of New York.
     In 1988 she gained a Fulbright Grant and stayed three months in New York, U.S.A. While in New York, she was invited to exhibit and teach as visiting professor at the State University of New York (SUNY). She was invited to participate in a museological study course at the Museum of
Modern Art of New York (MOMA).   
     In 1989, along with artists Carlos Musso and Carlos Seveso, she created Buenaventura Studio, which was joined by artist Alvaro Pemper in 1990. She teaches at her own Studio since 1991 and worked as advisor to the Juan Zorrilla de San Martín Museum from 1995 through 1997. In 1999 she was invited to teach drawing to advanced students at the Universidad Mayor de la República (National University of Uruguay), School of Fine Arts.
     Since 1983 she has performed several solo exhibitions at museums and art galleries in Uruguay, U.S.A., UK, Spain and Japan -among them, a solo exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Tokyo in 1990- and she has participated in group exhibitions in Uruguay, U.S.A., Japan,
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Colombia, Germany, France, Austria and Spain.
     In 2001 she created the group Talleres del Mercado, whose art works have been exhibited to the public in five open workshops during two years in Montevideo. Afterwards their work was exhibited in the form of a large travelling exhibition, called La Idea del Tango, in Europe (Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Viena, Paris, Madrid, Cadaques, Barcelona) from november 2002 to November 2004.
     From may to september 2004, she performed an experience of open workshop at the Borne, in Barcelona, together with Alvaro Pemper.
